Dave Spafford has been interested in unique hand-cut silhouettes since watching their creation while working his first job as a Disneyland character.

After graduating high school he joined the Animation Department at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. After having worked on many successful feature films, such as The Rescuers, The Little Mermaid and Who framed Roger Rabbit, he moved on to form his own studio, Spaff Animation Inc.

While working with some of the biggest names in the film business, including storyboarding for the likes of Francis Ford Coppola and Ryan Gosling, his interest in the art of Magic took him to The Magic Castle in Hollywood.

After becoming a magician member, he took up the mantle of Dai Vernon and carried on the tradition of silhouette cutting. Now a much beloved fixture at 'The Castle' he enjoys entertaining and amazing the patrons with this nearly forgotten art form.
